Latterly? I went to Nursery there in about (It's a long time ago, and I'm getting on now) 1960

If you look on Multimap you can see aerial and NSEW birds eye views of the old school. Multimap images always seem to be a few years out of date which is useful sometimes.

Looks like Wyming Brook Drive to me HD,

near to where the brook empties into the lower of the two dams.

Yup, it's the eastern portal of the 4 miles 612 yards long Rivelin Tunnel carrying Yorkshire Waters share of the Derwent Valley Scheme.

The water flows over a lip just inside the gates into an underground tank under the grass in the foreground. There it mixes with the Wyming Brook water and flows out into the Lower Rivelin Dam for ongoing treatment.

The interest bit is the fact that approx 10 million gallons a day flows into the tunnel and 10.5 MG/Day flows out. The balance of around 500,000 gallons/day leaks into the tunnel from the strata above. I wish I could get 5% on my assets. At a point under Stanage Edge the tunnel is 774 ft. deep. It falls around 6 ft. over it's length.

The tunnel takes water from the Derwent Valley Aquaduct which carries water from the higher level Howden & Derwent dams, it runs across the hillside above the fishing office. I can pin-point the location to within a few yards. In a Severn Trent document the level of the intake basin is given as 213.6 metres asl. In Google Earth you can see some buildings in the right position but the detail is not sufficient to see exactly. I wondered if anyone has ever taken a walk up there and if the precise position is out of bounds.

I think the Severn Trent document asl might be a bit out, unless that is they have managed to get water to flow uphill.

Been like this for years, I'm amazed it's still there.

After you've got it, do we know anything about it ?

I think it's the funny building just off Granville street above the railway station, where the super tram runs.

When Granville street was open to traffic, I'm sure it was a garage/ breaker's yard, albeit very small.

it's near the iron clad bridge of Gilbert Street, at the bottom of park hill flats

....its actually the old Railway building off Bernard Rd , as you drop down below the Supertram crossing , down towards the Dark Arches .

Most people will be more familier with sighting it off the Parkway , just above the Bernard Rd bridge . It is opposite where the speed camera is, on the town approach.
