  1. The toll was a halfpenny for pedestrians and a penny for a horse and driver. The toll keeper from about 1923 was Joseph Gleadall, who was based in a little brick built cabin which had been put up with the original bridge which replaced a ferry (ferry operational in 1850). The bridge was used by workers wanting to get from Tinsley to Kimberworth and the nearby works, saving bus and tram fares.
