  1. There was a preservation scheme based at Upperthorpe & Killamarsh Station in the late 1980s and early 1990s known as the Rother Valley Railway. This was an unfortunate choice of name for anyone now trying to find anything out online as there is an extant Rother Valley Railway in East Sussex! Industrial Locomotives 8EL (Industrial Railway Society, 1989) lists but one locomotive at the Rother Valley Railway (No 47, Moorbarrow, a 1955 built 0-6-0 saddle tank), but there is no mention of the Rother Valley Railway in the next edition, Industrial Locomotives 9EL, 1992). I might be able to find out more on Sunday when I get a chance to look through a large pile of magazines.

  2. When my elder son was at school he studied German. At parents' evening we were talking to the German master and I admitted that my knowledge of German was from Commando mags. "Ah!" he said, "Hande hoch swinehund"!
