Can't say I know Wharf Street, Hugh Dronfield is, however, listed there in 1881 Census (which still fits nicely).

Thomas Machin, 12 Wharf Street - near Maunche Buildings/Maunche Hotel - page before is Broad Street, Park, as the page after.

Page before that has Ellen Farley, wife of Head, 53 Exchange Street (which is the Durham Ox); also James F Walker, Publican, Furnival Road (Alexandra Hotel) - now, where is a map ?

Of any interest ?

WRAGG: Messrs. Sansom, in Norfolk street (now Harrison Brothers and

Howson), had a table-blade forger, named Muscroft, who was a man of

great ingenuity. He had been a collier. He made and repaired clocks,

some of which I have seen, and I believe he contrived a small gas

apparatus. I think I could almost positively say that General Grainger,

one of the confederate officers in the United States rebellion, was born

in the Park, and was the son of one of Mr. Muscroft's daughters.

LEONARD: The public-house at the bottom of the street, now the Norfolk

Arms, was, John Wilson tells us in a note to Mather's song of "Shout 'em

down's barn," called " The Hullett," or Owl, and about the end of the

last century it was kept by Mr. Michael Waterhouse. Its pseudonym was "

Shout 'em down's," and it was a favourite rendezvous for recruiting

parties.

Found this post on SF

Does it extend his dates ?

My gr. gr. grandfather was the victualler of the Golden Fleece, 12 New Haymarket His name was Hugh Dronfield and I have found him on the 1861,71 and 81 census. I have the photo from the Library (it is not online). It is a good photo but the name of the pub is not visible. I wondered if anyone has any old postcards or photos of that area.

Bishop Thos., vict., Golden Fleece, 12 New Haymarket

I've posted your 1857 Thomas Bishop to A to Z.

That was interesting reading from SF, if the pub was pulled down [ although it didn't say which year ]

It could have been rebuilt 12 Wharf Street .

I had him 1862-1881, so, taken back a year; Thankfully an easy one to check.
