ukelele lady
Ukelass: I've been meaning to mention this for a while. A while ago you posted to the effect that you had combined the Barrack Tavern and The New Barrack Tavern listings. They are definitely different pubs in different locations. The Barrack Tavern was on Balaclava Street/Barrack Lane/Penistone Rd - near the original barracks. The New Barrack Tavern on Penistone Road/High House Terrace was, and still is, near the newly built Hillsborough Barracks. This pub was demolished in the 30's and a "New" New Barrack Tavern was built on the same site. Not sure about this part, but I would think that for a while they were both trading at the same time. Hi vox I think there's a bit of misunderstanding here. When I said I'd combined the two I didn't mean the Old Barrack and the New Barrack. It was for Richard's benefit really, as sometimes there are two of the same, same dates same landlords so we round them down into one. If you look on the A to Z you will see they are both there, the Old Barrack and the New Barrack with the names and addresses which are given in the books [Whites, Melville, Kelly's etc. ] including spelling as it were. Sometimes a name is spelt oneway one year then a different way the next year. It's the same with the street names, if it has changed some still call it by the old name. If you look on the A to Z at the New Barrack the name changes from Owlerton Road to High House Terrace back to Owlerton Road and then Penistone Road. You will also find a John Pearson in 1876 and from 1907 to 1913 Jabez Pearson. That's all the Pearsons I've got in the books unless they were after 1922.
