I'm a bit confused with this one as to whether they are the same place or not.

I think they could be but the addresses seem too far apart.

The address of the Bulls Head starts with 36 Duke Street and in

1839 2 Duke Street / South Street.

1864 2 Duke Street / South Street, Moor

1879 2 Matilda Street /South Street , Moor

There are no other Bull's Head in the books in that area up to 1922 that is.

I've left them seperate from the change of 2 Duke Street / South Street , Moor

to 2 Matilda Street / South Street , Moor.1879.

I wonder what the address is on the 1871 census?

There were three Bridge pubs London Road , there's now two.

One 1 London Road and 509 London Road which there were two of. I assume one's the old one and

the other is the newer one which was built when the other was demolished.

I've noticed how some times they skip a couple of years, are they ill, have they gone to war?

Ukelass:

I've been meaning to mention this for a while.

A while ago you posted to the effect that you had combined the Barrack Tavern and The New Barrack Tavern listings.

They are definitely different pubs in different locations.

The Barrack Tavern was on Balaclava Street/Barrack Lane/Penistone Rd - near the original barracks.

The New Barrack Tavern on Penistone Road/High House Terrace was, and still is, near the newly built Hillsborough Barracks. This pub was demolished in the 30's and a "New" New Barrack Tavern was built on the same site.

Not sure about this part, but I would think that for a while they were both trading at the same time.

A couple of points re: The New barrack Tavern.

It seems that as far as we know, no pictures remain of the "old" New Barrack Tavern. (demolished and re-built in the 30's) apart from this one.

This picture was given to Kev (landlord) by a lady who's Grandmother had her wedding do there.

The photo shows the landlords name above the door as being James Pearson. There are other Pearsons listed on the index at that time, but not a James.

The photo is from 1906, so he predates that.

I know the photos of the framed picture are not good enough to post in picture links but I'll keep on at him to un-frame it and scan it for us.

Also interesting I thought was the "Enigma Code" link.

There's also a photo of 4, High House Terrace, which was attached to the pub.
