A clue to this one.

This building is on the opposite side of the road to the first picture.

Don't know where it is but looks interesting, hope you did not go past the " No Entry " sign,

Only my arms went through the wire netting with camera in hand.

I went to look to see if my ancesters steel and file manufacturers building was still standing from the 1800s.

As you can see it's still standing , tucked away on Well Meadow Street. lol

Does anyone know where this is in Sheffield?

on a road that runs paralel to St Phillips Road, was there last week, hoped to gain entry before it is demolished, the gates at the top and bottom were open but all doors were secured.

I followed the instruction but could not open the door

Hi Sando

Do you really think they would let us in? what about the elf and safety?

I have been again today hoping I could see someone to ask about entry but I doubt if they'd let us in. :(

The prompt reply from Stuart is correct.

But is the location on one of the 1930's council estates such as the Arbourthorne which has this style of housing?

It looks very much like that sort of house, is it your house Steve? I only ask because you once put up a mystery location which was a chest of drawers you had rescued from a skip and which was now in your house!

Didn't realise it had been done before, I was more interested in the old street lamp when I took the picture

and not the building.

Is the SP a left over from renovation work in the area. Maybe a "Service Point" where builders could get water and power?

No vox, your not even near to the answer. :(

A clue: it dates back to the war

So Steve said "it's doubtful anyone will know the location."

I've got the location correct but haven't got the meaning of the SP yet!

Of course - they had a Styrrup Pump at this house.

This belongs in the left over from the war thread

Yes you finally got it vox,

'SP' = Stirrup Pump.

The house in the photo is across the road from the Ball Inn PH on Myrtle Rd, S2.

And like Stuart mentioned to me "'must have been a good bit of ww2 paint to last this long"

A clue: it dates back to the war

In the war some damaged buildings were painted with the rather agressive looking "EL OFF", which simply meant that the mains supply to the property had been switched off (ELectricity OFF). I have even seen El OFF on gale damaged prefabricated housing after the 1962 gales.

I don't think SP is a similar type of warning / message as the house it is painted on appears to be in good repair and is being lived in.
