Lysanderix
Of course horn of all sorts was important for cutlers…which is why the Cutlers Company’s coat of arms shows an elephant.

tozzin
Along with George Butlers I would say that all cutler's bought their colloquial known as stag from the African and Indian continents, besides the Americas and Canada. It was an art matching the stag to make sets for carver sets, steak eaters but sadly that art was lost and most pieces of stag were dyed the same colour. Then plastic imitation stag was introduced, if you can't tell the difference just put a flame to it and it will ignite, real stag won't.
