They are on the bollards and the lampost outside the "Fat Kat" http://www.sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums/uploads/monthly_06_2007/post-14-1181623314.jpg,http://www.sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums/uploads/monthly_06_2007/post-14-1181623344.jpg,http://www.sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums/uploads/monthly_06_2007/post-14-1181623389.jpg
RichardB
I'll be the first to admit - I do not have a clue, a work colleague suggests "Germany" but can't give a reason. Great question. Don't hold yer breath for an answer Did anyone have a look round the side of the Fat Cat for a "sign" ? Should have been a Road Sign there, in the "wrong" place ..... Guest tsavo
While searching for info on the unusual posts at the Fat Cat, found this pic. Notting to do with the question but couldn't resist this one!
mickjj
I cannot believe that I have stumped "Tsavo the Great" and "RichardB the Sage" with this Question lol
RichardB
I cannot believe that I have stumped "Tsavo the Great" and "RichardB the Sage" with this Question I'm stumped, at least Tsavo posted a funny picture to hide his shame Don't know if it relates to a person, a building, a company or whatever. The Workhouse was there, and a Cotton Mill before that, the flood came and went past there, the Alma pub also (pre Fat Cat), named after Crimean War battle, Kelham Island. Maybe a manufacturers mark. Was there a brewery near there, "Crown"-related ? (I thought that was "Berry" who ran that. Right, I've finished babbling ..... Complete blank from me, I'm afraid at the moment lol
Guest tsavo
I wonder if a cannon comes into this?

Guest tsavo
It's just that I know cannons were used as bollards and the HN motif and the crown does have a royal feel to them.

Guest tsavo
Arhhhh! Thought you new the answer. Have trawled through all the old brewer's names hoping to find an HN but nothing even close. Tried to tie it to the Crimean war and nothing there either. So, a real mystery to fathom. Back to the drawing board then.

Horation Nelson was made Baron Nelson in 1798 and then Viscount Nelson in 1801 his brother subsequently became Earl Nelson, so quite a link to royalty and the peerage. :)

Guest tsavo
Apart from Horatio Nenson, the only HN I could come up with was Henry the Eight.

Guest tsavo
I still think they were cast to commemorate the death of Horatio Nelson. The coronet indicates the peerage. Haven't a clue where the pink ones are though.
