RichardB
The Sheffield Florists and Amateurs Society October 7 1835 The second meeting of this society was held at Mr Broadbent's, the Bull and Mouth Inn. The flowers were of very fine growth, better than we have seen them the whole season. The arrangements were judicious, and the scene seemed to delight every one. The prizes were well contested. Mr Glaves, of Whitby, sent a great variety of good seedlings, many of which were new in character. Mr Spencer, of Nottingham, sent a very beautiful selection but they arrived too late for competition. Mr Levick, as usual, obtained by far the most prizes and we think he justly deserves praise for the great quantity of show flowers he has raised. We have marked those sorts of his own raising thus from which it will be seen that not a few of them obtained prizes. Mr Alcock Mr Wild and Mr Crooks were the judges.
