Hello.

I was delighted to find this site and hope I will be ablre to find out more about my item.

I aquired a carving set ie knife and fork, when my Grandmother died a number of years ago. For the ast 15 years I have used this carving set at least twice a week and it was only today whilst drying it I actually looked at the inscription on it. I realised that it is older than I thought, imaginging it was just something my Grandmoter had bought perhaps when my father was younger. I actually thought the handle etc was a form of plastic but am now beginning to wonder :). The inscription on the knife reads as follows :-

V (Crown) R

Joseph Rodgers & Sons

Cutlers to Her Majesty

(star) (Maltese Cross)

Further up the blade it says "Eltrinchante Incomparable"

The fork only has the inscription Rodgers Patent with a Maltese Cross and a Star.

I am trying to upload a picture but wondered if anyone had any idea of when abouts this was made etc ?

Much appreciated.

Further to the above the blade etc is quite stained, I wondered if anyone could advise me on the best way to clean this ?

Hi Neepss and welcome to SH.

I found some information on the 'BladeForums.com'

"A Rodgers knife marked V crown R was made between about 1840 and 1901. The Spanish etching on the blade (Eltrinchante Incomparable) suggests that the knife was made for export to Latin America."
