RichardB Posted September 5, 2010 Share Posted September 5, 2010 Dr. Wycliff Watson, Medical Officer to the Sheffield Board of Guardians, calculated that there were 28 cripples in the Sheffield Workhouse and 58 in the Infirmary. He said that "for the adult crippled - in the widest sense of the term - very little can be done. A few may be able to leave the infirmary, but the bulk are, and must be, permanent residents there".
