ChrisN
I don't know how searchable your database is but maybe you can help me with the following vague search: My father (b1926) was born in a Sheffield pub. Name of pub unknown but possibly in Upperthorpe. We think the pub was run by his Grandparents these woud be either Edwin and Sarah A Neale or (less likeley) John L and Sarah A Simpson. Sorry, not much info, any help appreciated. Thanks, Chris.

ChrisN
1925 John L Simpson, beerhouse, 39 Portland Street That looks good! John L Simpson was my great grandfather. He lived on Portland street in 1881 (no 87) and 1901 (no 41) so this all ties in. Also I see a later reply mentions the pub being run by Staceys. John L SImpson's Wife was a Stacey, her family also lived in the area, so maybe passed the pub on to in-laws? Does anyone know anything more about this pub - does it still exist? Thanks a lot, Chris

ChrisN
Portland Street (part) in 1952. Link to OS map #30 That's interesting. I see that in 1952 no. 41 is part of the pub. My great grandfather's family lived at no.41 in 1901 but no mention of it being a pub then. I wonder when the pub took over that address, and if my GG became the publican at the same time. Maybe if it was just a beerhouse they don't come under that category. :(
