John Smith, a council tree officer in Sheffield, which claims to be the greenest city in England, said: "Lime trees are a huge part of the Victorian heritage of Sheffield, there are huge swathes of them. "Some of them may cause a bit of disruption but we could never consider felling them just because they were inconvenient to maintain."
