Shazan was asking about paintings of old pubs, this is one I have on my

wall at home. It is of Norfolk bridge but has anyone heard of this pub?

It's called the Coal Fields, a genuine name which was looked up before

the picture was painted.

I'm not sure what they call that road without getting the map out.

I'ts heading towards Attercliffe. Where's the map man.

151 Attercliffe Road is marked as a beerhouse in the 1911 White's directory; keeper Alonzo C Howard (interesting to me as I'm vaguely related to an Alonzo Howard)

Looking again at the picture, if the viewpoint were slightly further back than the mark I put on the map then that would work out right.

Strangely, the 1911 census seems to confirm that this is indeed my 2nd cousin 3X removed; Alonzo Christopher Howard.

1891 census for 151 Attercliffe Road. FindMyPast transcribes this as "Local Field Tavern", I'm trying to read it as "Coal Field Tavern", but it doesn't seem to fit…

Well it certainly does look like LOCAL.

I've tried but here's no way I can "make" it read COAL

Why would COAL seem possible to you Jeremy?

Have you got some other reference to it?

The pub is ukelele lady's picture is the Coal Fields, so it would have been nice if this said coal, but it really does look like local to me

Doh! I didn't even think to look for it in the shiny new index. I've added a few more names to the listing (link)
