Guest 30_degrees
Has anyone got any information on Sheffield's weapon makers? Any type Any century Shops ..... I know about Turner's and.... the one that was on the Wicker. I'm more interested in when Adam was a lad but anything would be great. Ta I've searched for the site and found odd bits about knives the bayonet poem, Maxim, Wortley Top Forge etc but there must be lots more. I'm looking for domestic arms and mass produced weapons manufactured for warfare, Cannon Founders, small arms gunsmiths, Bowyers, Fletchers etc, etc.

Guest 30_degrees
BSA apparently had a factory in Sheffield, anyone know where, when etc? Although this is an old English name in its own right, it is a dialectal derivative form of the pre medieval (11th Century) "Hausard", a metonymic or job description of a maker of daggers and swords. The name derives from the French "hansart", itself comprised of the Germanic elements "hant" meaning hand, and "sach", a knife.
