14 December 1832

Despite the announcement of Sheffield Borough Constituency result not appearing until the 15th, the people of Sheffield riot anyway. Windows are broken at the Tontine Inn, the Riot Act is read and Troops are on the streets of Sheffield. Six people are killed.

14 December 1922

John Osborn born. Conservative MP for Sheffield Hallam 1959 to 1987. Also MEP 1975 to 1979.

14 December 1933

Prince of Wales in Sheffield to look at the work of the National Council for Social Services with the unemployed.

14 December 1936

A large crowd gathers at the town hall to hear the proclamation of King George VI

14 December 1937

Miss Norah O'Leary's body is discovered in a snow drift on Broomhead Moor. The 17 year old died of exposure.

Former Sheffield Wednesday favourite Chris Waddle born Felling Tyne & Wear.

14 December 1967

Former Sheffield United footballer Billy Boyd died. Boyd scored 30 goals in 42 appearances!

14 December 1968

The Hallamshires are disbanded and are allowed to march through the town with bayonets and swords drawn.

14 December 1996

Bishop Gerald Moverley died, first RC Bishop of the Diocese of Hallam from 30 May 1980 until July 1996. He had been a priest for 50 years and a bishop for almost 29 years.

14 December 2003

Justin Timberlake appeared at the Sheffield Hallam FM Arena on his "Justified and Lovin' It" Live Tour.
