Stuck at 1781

Hi there,

i am new to this forum and I am currently looking into my family tree. I have got as far back as 1781 really easily but I have hit a brick wall. I am looking for the parents of John Widdison born 1781. He was married to Jane and worked as a butcher. The address given for the family in the 1841 census is castle folds where he was working as a tripe dresser and butcher. Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Mish, The main problem we have here is the various spellings of the surname, ie: Widdison, Widdowson and Widowson. The following details are taken from the LDS geneaology site and will need verifying at your nearest LDS Church.

John Widdison b 1783 Handsworth, parents Thomas Widowson b 1759 Handsworth and Mary Firth married 24th Nov 1783 at Handsworth.

Siblings: Thomas b 1786, William b 1801, Hannah b1790, Sarah b 1799, Ann b 1796, Mary 1788, Elizabeth b 1792, John 1784 and Catherine 1794 all born Handsworth.

Thomas b 1759 parents appear to be Thomas and Hannah Widdowson, Thomas came from Whiston (about 3 miles from Handsworth) and his sibs were:

William 1762, John 1759, Joseph 1753, Mary 1745, Ann 1747, Elizabeth 1749, Sarah 1750 and another Elizabeth 1756 (assume other died young).
