RichardB Posted December 8, 2009 Share Posted December 8, 2009 On the 31st October 1945 there were 1,181 licensed houses in Sheffield, being 425 publicans, 243 beer-houses and 511 off-licenses. Since 1904, when the compensation provisions of the Licensing Acts came into being, 356 on-licenses have been closed with compensation, at a total cost of £462,184 12s 3d.
