Lower Walkley Green

Local historians have looked back into the heritage of Lower Walkley Green and we hold maps dating back to the eighteenth century. The land was once owned by the Duke of Norfolk and is shown on a variety of maps and plans throughout the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. What is clear is that, with the exception of the edge of the Green at Walkley Bank Road, there has never been a dwelling on the land and the public have always been free to cross it. In living memory the land has been used for the grazing of livestock by local residents and more recently was the site of the annual community bonfire on November 5th.

What you can do? Tuesday, 29 April 2008 22:00

The association needs your help. We are a group of residents working hard to fight powerful and wealthy developers. They have access to legal representation and experience in driving planning applications through Council procedures. We need assistance from people with experience of successfully fighting planning applications; we need donations to our fighting fund to allow us to engage our own legal representation; we need people with information about the Green and its previous ownership; we need evidence of how the Green and its Right of Way has been used by the public in the past. Photographs and maps showing the path are particularly useful.
