Guest Falls
Hi, For the thread on 'Salmon Pastures', Gramps kindly provided maps of the area for 1850 and 1905. The map for 1905 shows a building on Attercliffe Road, next to Emmanuel Church, called: " George Wilson Institute". Does anybody know what this was all about? HughW
from White's 1919/20 Directory: The GEORGE WILSON INSTITUTE, in connection with Emmanuel Church, Attercliffe Road, was erected in 1888 as a memorial to the late George Wilson, Esq., of Banner Cross, at an outlay of £2,000. and from the Sheffield Local Register: 10 Sep 1887 Mrs. Wilson lays the memorial stone of "George Wilson" Institute, Attercliffe. 6 Feb 1888 The George Wilson Institute, Attercliffe road, opened. Sounds like a church hall/social centre? Hugh
