16 April 1792

Spence Broughton's body hung in a gibbet on Attercliffe Common. Reputedly 40,000 people visited the site on the first day and the body remained there for another 36 years.

The rebuilt and enlarged Weston Park Museum was formally opened by Sir Phillip Sassoon. Under Secretary of State for Air.

Pensioners marched through Sheffield to a mass meeting at Burngreave demanding higher pensions.

16th April 1891 - Influenza reported to be rapidly spreading in the town and neighbourhood.
