Hi,

I was wondering if any kind soul had a trade directory for High Green from around 1901?

If so is anyone listed as a boot and shoe maker?

Their shop was just up from another shop owned by an 'A. Bostwick', but alas I don't what that shop sold.

Many Thanks.

I found an Alfred Bostwick listed as a book seller and newsagent in Mortomley, High Green from White's 1901 directory. Didn't have an address listed though, but searching Sheffield Records Online brought up Alfred Bostwick in the same place in 1893 along with 2 people listed as boot/shoe makers in Mortomley:

  • John Turner - Shoe Maker - Mortomley, Chapeltown
  • Edward James Worthy - Boot & Shoe Maker - Mortomley, Chapeltown

Can't find John Turner in the 1901 directory, but there is a listing for "Wynne & Worthy, boot & c.dealers, Blackburn; & Chapeltown" - Possibly Edward James Worthy?

Hope that helps :)

Many thanks for that.

I've never really checked out the site you mentioned much and didn't cross my mind. I must sign up!

No problem, www.historicaldirectories.org is a good site for directory records as well :)
