Guest Trefcon
Again from Mark Goodwill, thanks Mark. The names are all from the Park area of Sheffield. There was St Lukes, which i dont think this is, and also Park Wesleyan Chapel which i think this could be. Angus. G. Died. Unknown Sheffield Roll of Honour Archer. Jas. Died. Guest Trefcon
It did mine! It must be 'our' man, there's only one E.Durnan on CWGC, and only one on TNA mic's. Dean.
Guest Michelle nee Fenwick
Hi, My Ancestor is on this Roll Of Honour. George Henry Fenwick 17003 Royal Scots Fusiliers 6/7 Battalion Killed In Action 22nd August 1917. Grave Unknown, On the Tyne Cot Memorial. Could it be St Lukes as on his service records the Vicar of St Lukes acted as a witness on one of the service forms [what for I'm not sure] I know his Father was a catholic as he is buried in City Rd Catholic Section. When his posessions were returned to his parents there was a disc and rosary beads. Could it also have been St Johns Park? Did the artifacts from St Lukes go to St Johns when it was pulled down? Guest Trefcon
Hi Michelle, i did put an answer to your post about George on the Sheffield Indexers site. Thats very interesting about St Lukes, i think you might have just solved the puzzle! St Lukes was pulled down in the late 30's i think ? The Roll didn't go to St John's, they have their own. The parish was divided between St Johns, Park and St Aidan's, Manor. I wonder if it went to St Aidan and is still there? I've not got through that particular door of God's ! Anyone going to church at St Aidans tomorrow ? Trawling through the old newspapers at Sheffield Local Studies is your best bet for a photo of him. Dean. Guest Michelle nee Fenwick
Hi again Dean, Yes I am going to go to the local studies in a couple of weeks when I have 2 weeks off work. Lets hope the roll is at St Aidens another puzzle to find, at least St Johns can be crossed off... Thanks again Michelle
