You can only really see this old cottage - built in the late 17th Century - from Norwood Road when the leaves fall from the trees in autumn.

Edward Vickers tells the story there is a willow tree in the garden grown from a cutting taken from a tree that grows on Napoleon's tomb on St Helena.

Has anyone got any more information about this house? This house was my parents family home growing up and is a big part of my family now. Im the youngest generation of the family and would like to learn more about the house and its history.

SMITH, Jane (Widow, age 87). Died at Rose Cottage, Crabtree Road; Buried on March 25, 1938 in Unconsecrated ground;  Grave Number 5678, Section G of Crookes Cemetery, Sheffield.

On 10th September 1927 at St Cuthberts William Walter Franklin son of Mr & Mrs William Henry John Franklin of Rose Cottage, Crabtree Road married Kathleen Heathcote daughter of Mr & Mrs J.W.Heathcote of Ecclesall Road. In February 1929 Mr W.H.J.Franklin was the manager of Hanbidge and Sons Ltd 47 Fargate - the previous November the shop had been broken into and the back ripped off the safe, £68 cash and 3 suitcases and clothing was taken.

FRANKLIN, William Henry John (Retired, age 73). Died at 102 Crabtree Road; Buried on October 27, 1944 in Unconsecrated ground; Grave Number 5678, Section G of Crookes Cemetery, Sheffield.
FRANKLIN, Mary Susanah G (Widow, age 82).  Died at Wingrove Nursing Home; Buried on January 9, 1951 in Unconsecrated ground; Grave Number 5678, Section G of Crookes Cemetery, Sheffield.

Thomas Holland table-knife cutler of Crabtree died on 16th January 1864 and Caleb Beach aged 16 son of Job Beach died 9th January 1877

BEACH, John James (of Rose Cottage Crabtree).  Baptised June 16, 1875, by J B Draper at All Saints, Brightside.  Parents name(s) are Martha & Job (Stocktaker).
BEACH, Lily (of Rose Cottage Crabtree, born ~). Baptised March 15, 1874, by J B Draper at All Saints, Brightside.  Parents name(s) are Martha & Job (Stock Taker).
BEACH, Sydney (of Rose Cottage Crabtree, born ~).  Baptised April 7, 1880, by T Couch at All Saints, Brightside.  Parents name(s) are Martha & Joe (Contractor).

Hill, John G. (, manager ).  Address: 102 Crabtree Road, Sheffield in 1905. Recorded in: Whites Directory of Sheffield & Rotherham
