City Guns at Kelham, to keep the French out!

Took this just to have an image of it before the wood finally turns to dust!

And finally, anyone know what was in the 'tablet' before Howells put their moniker there?

Dean.

Hi Dean

Are these the same guns that used to sit at the base of the Crimea War Memorial at Moorhead?

Thanks

So there was something worth seeing at Kelham Island this weekend then, even if it wasn't directly connected with their Christmas event.

I take it the cannons are a regular exhibit as I have not had a chance to go to Kelham Island since its reopening after last summers flood.

Hi Dunsbyowl, i couldn't tell you to be honest.

There was a plaque with info on them but the other half read it and told me what i posted. Very impressive though close up!

Hi Dean,

I knew I'd seen something about them. No is the answer to my question - I did read those Crimea guns disappeared during the "War" - I hope they weren't dumped in the sea with all those iron railings!

From The Local Register, May 13th 1857:

"Two Russian guns presented to Sheffield by the government".
