Guest Old Canny Street Kid
There is a bit more on the match The World's First Floodlit Soccer Match on http://www.chrishobbs.com/firstfloodlitfootball1878.htm I believe that the opposing sides were captained by the brothers William and Charles Clegg The match was well covered at the time in the local newspapers, the Telegraph and the Independent. It is also mentioned in some detail in various local football histories published in modern times, and, sometime in the early 1980s, a special feature about this event appeared in the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce journal, Quality. Copies of this magazine can be viewed in the Local Studies dept at the Central Library.
