Quite odd that no assistance from the Station only a stones throw away was given ( i cant remember when the old fire station began operation, or if there was the system in place where you paid local stations to provide assistance in case of fire?? Anyone enlighten me? Pun very much intended) Quite dramatic as well if the fire was spotted from Hillsbrough Barracks which are a fair distance away, and to have 600 men go to tackle the blaze. Must have been a sight to behold. (where are you finding these news clippings RichardB?) On a side note, in the story underneath, the Iatalian gentleman who was a victim of mugging. What the hell was he doing walking around with £760 back then!! Christ, thats a fair bit of money to carry around now, back then it must have been worth thousands!!
