Stuart0742
It has said "Coach Entrance" up there for many years. But what about that white bit in the middle that appears to be broken with a number 14 on it (the address? 14 Holme Lane?) Whats that bit all about? No the address is 61 Holme ln. so there's a mystery what is the broken sign?
DaveH
No the address is 61 Holme ln. so there's a mystery what is the broken sign? Yes, it may be a painted sign but its obvious what "Coach Entrance" means What we want to know is what was that mysterious number 14 on the white broken sign saying? Another mystery, - why do you keep calling vox "white van man"? OK so he drives a white van, but the term "white van man" usually refers to one of those crap, irresponsible law breaking van drivers that continually get away with breaking all the rules of the highway code and driving dangerously. I'm sure vox isn't like that as he has revealed in another thread that he has done the Advanced driving Course.

Stuart0742
And a 2 after the 4, making it 0142 .................? probably the remains of a more modern sign, so could be part of a telephone number.

Thanks Dave but my sense of humour is robust. I quite like being "The White Van Man" In fact I've not long since elevated myself to "White Van Man" from "Red Van Man". vox
Just to add confusion to the phone number question: The phone number of Hawleys which is in the yard behind the arch (so obviously in the same area as far as numbers are concerned) is 0114 2721096

vox
That is confusing, that's the Bridge St Tel No. I got that number from an internet "List of Sheffield Tyre Dealers" site. They're all notoriously inaccurate. I should have known better. Here's what's more likely to be the correct one. 0114-232 2676.

DaveH
Think that would fit with the photo So that would sort out the rest of the phone number which goes over the word "entrance". Now the hard bit, without any clues remaining in the picture what did it say in front of the phone number over the word "coach"?

DaveH
Phone I think it needs to say a bit more than "Phone 0114-232 2676" unless the business was a rather dubious and quite sleazy "escort agency" :o

If I remember right I think there use to be a name sign above the arch.

Was the sign as wide as the arch Underneath the words "Coach Entrance" is a white strip, which looks more modern than the wording. Is the remaining numbers and the white strip part of the recent sign you mention U/L

I'll have to ask around to see if anyone remembers it.
