Pecto’s - good for coughs? Upperthorpe shopping centre, taken in the 1980s when still a student. Later had fond memories of this area, seeing Frank White play the Upperthorpe Hotel a few times.

Could only find one clear-ish wall advertisement now in that area - Heart’s Desire & Pleasure Cruises! Wonder where they went to?

Some more painted advertisements for the collection are these that have only just seen the light of day again in the last month or two when the old shop sign was removed. This is Hicks Street in Neepsend and looking at old directories it seems to have been a newsagents since it was built in the 1870s until it closed last year. The signs advertise four magazines - Picture Post, Lilliput, Housewife and Leader Magazine - which with a bit of online research checking on the publication dates for them seems to suggest these advertisements date back to the 1940s.

I've just discovered this topic and have spent the best part of two hours looking through it from the very beginning. What a fascinating archive it is, a tip of the hat to our doughty band of sign-hunters who tracked them all down.
