Horse Trough

Does anyone remember the elaborate drinking trough that used to sit in the field where Hangram Lane meets Cottage Lane in the Mayfield Valley. It was removed several years ago but I wondered if anyone knew what happened to it. It was a bit more special than the usual troughs and suspect it was made from basalt.

It's also in the back of my mind that it was previously a drinking trough that used to sit on what is now the Hunters Bar Roundabout when it was a Toll Bar.

Any memories gratefully received.

That's right Mike, it was originally at Hunters Bar. I always thought it looked a bit forlorn in the middle of the field. Happy to say it's still in the safekeeping of one of the local farmers.
