SYPTE Gas Bus

While going through my digitised images found this one of the SYPTE gas bus which was done and trialled in sheffield on route 51

the photo was taken at an exhibtiion at Leeds in the early 1980s I think

Can anyone remember it , the gas powered lettering was removed before it entered service on the 51 .

I also have shots of it on its last appearance as a gas bus when it disgraced its self in CBS

central bus station - it did say it at the end of platform a/b in 6 ft high letters for around 35 years

I was the bus inspector in Campo Lane when the gas bus was on trial, it was actualy a Rolls Royce straight six petrol engine as used in the Humber scout car, converted to use gas. The greatest problem with this bus was it only had enough fuel to do two trips on the Herdings-Lodge Moor, but the acceleration from a standing start was like a sports car!
