ceegee Posted July 8, 2008 Share Posted July 8, 2008 I've just come across an article in The Times dated 24th August 1943 entitled CENTENARY OF SHEFFIELD. It is a reflection on the previous hundred years in Sheffield and contains the statement "Sheffield has been. a pioneer in many directions: electricity, gas, and water supplies, transport, and the bacteriological treatment of sewage. It was in the course of the development of the water supply that one of the worst disasters in its history took place in 1864" Thankfully no disaster has resulted from the development of sewage treatment (yet?)
