Guest Trefcon Posted April 9, 2008 Share Posted April 9, 2008 Monday 25th sept 1916, Zeppelin raid on Sheffield. Zeppelin's L-21 and L-22, were sent to attack northern industrial towns in England. Kapitanleutnant Dietrich was to attack Sheffield. The Zeppelin headed towards Redmires then turned towards Attercliffe. The first bombs landed in Burngreave cemy, they also fell on Danville Street, Petre Street, Gimesthorpe Road, Writtle Street, Cossey Road, Corby Street and Woodbourne Hill. Bombs also landed near Manor Lane and Tinsley Park Colliery. 29 Dead, commemorated on the Zeppelin memorial on Effingham Road. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I discovered that a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel in Princess Street, Attercliffe had been destroyed by a bomb dropped during this raid in 1916.
