Of the " Red Lion,"

"with good convenience and stabling thereto"

kept by Christopher Bennett up to I75?, we only know that it was

"in the High Street, near the Market Place."

Within the last few years (1905) there was an old house, bearing the name of the " Red Lion,

'a few steps up the Hartshead Passage', close to where, near the end of the eighteenth

century, were the back premises of Haslehurst's Bank.
