We used to "wind up" the late 1970's Landlord of the Railway by asking for "a Whisky", when he asked "Which ?" we said, "it doesn't matter, whatever !"

He would then turn to a display of over 100 varities with a look of hatred in his eyes "Bloody heathens !"

I had Harwood House at 82 Hill Street, so We've got Edward Ellin there for the moment !

Looking at the photo on Picture Sheffield in my earlier post, they have The Harwood House at 103/105 Hill Street, the odd numbers are on the left side walking away from London Road towards Bramhall Lane, that seems to match the photo.

I could not find 103/105 Hill street on the 1901 census, Harwood Street is the boundary between ED 48 and 49. If the photo has a Harwood Street address then it would be an even no. and there was an entry for 86.

I will check the 1901 Census again for 82 Hill Street.

I'm 100% willing to take your answer, whatever you find. I've no real knowledge of the place at all. If you recommend an Odd/Even number, I'll go with you. I can list more that one address should you be uncertain, me, I haven't a clue !

Star of Lemont keeper added,

Struggling with 51 Hermitage Street ...

I think I should have said possibly Rising Sun not Sportsman. I have a relative who was Publican of the Rising Sun Hermitage Street a few years later. (1919 - 1925 from Kelly's) I need to refer back to Kelly's to see where on Hermitage Street it was.

RichardB do you have any record of the Rising Sun?

Does anybody have a relavent Kelly's?
