Guest Touche
Hi, Does anyone know of or can provide any maps of Melville Road, just off Broughton Lane? My nan used to live there. It would be directly underneath Sheffield Arena now but the whole area was demolished in the late 70s I seem to remember. Conditions were pretty dire compared to today to say the least but the neighbours in each yard always looked out for each other with the inevitable 'aunty' who lived over the yard wall! Any help - would be very grateful. Does anyone remember Melville Road/area? Thank you

Guest Touche
Is it possible to find out when the Melville Road area was built? Are threre any maps not showing this little corner of Attercliffe?
Guest plain talker
Melville road is not "quite" under the arena. (But it's very nearly!) the arena starts just a bit back from where campbell road would have been. (approximately where the words "attercliffe hilltop" are on the map) My aunt paced out the distance from the front of the school (Carbrook School, now the player's Cafe) to where my grandpa's house was, on Carltonville road, and the site of their house, past the top of Melvile road was underneath the car parking, the row of trees pretty much following the line of the properties. I'd hazard a guess that the housing there was built around 1850-1880, as we lived in an almost identical house, in Sharrow, which was dated from 1866.
