Edmund
The 1851 map shows the Orange Branch with a similar footprint to the 1829 plan above. The Orange Branch Benevolent Sick Society was established in 1819 and by 1824 had 82 members, £87 1s 5d in assets and was still being held at the house of Mr Allen on Hollis Croft. In October 1905 a hearing was held (under the new 1904 Licensing Act) to agree compensation for the removal of beer-on licences, including that of the Orange Branch. Its beer-off licence had already been withdrawn the previous May. The owners were Thomas Rawson and Co., the tenant was Mary Ann Watson. Sums of £1,200 for the brewers and £110 for the tenant were claimed, however the justices said it "was not at all a desirable house" and the compensation was eventually agreed at £650 for the brewery and £100 for the tenant. In the following January the fixtures and fittings were auctioned off.
