Information with the photograph:

A contemporary note on the back says 'Sims Croft, Wheatsheaf' but does not denote which one. Maps and trade directories do not throw any light on this matter.

Arthur Jackson name is on the building on the left with the lamp over the doorway. Is it the Wheatsheaf?

Along with various other property in the crofts, the executors of Henry Moody auctioned the Wheatsheaf in May 1891:

LOT 1 : All the Valuable FREE BEERHOUSE, known as "The Wheatsheaf", situate in Sims Croft, off Tenter street, Sheffield, in the occupation of Mr W.R. Slack, at the net yearly rent of £33 16s. The house contains Parlour and Dramshop to the front, Taproom, Kitchen, five Bedrooms and Cellaring. In the Yard at the back there are Wash Kitchen, Wood Stable, and other conveniences. This is an old-established, respectable and well-accustomed house, and is doing a good trade. The site contains by a recent survey thereof 173 square yards or thereabouts, and is held on lease for 776 years from 26th March 1774, at a nominal rent of 10s 6d per annum.

LOT 2 was two dwelling houses 49 and 51 School croft, which backed onto LOT 1.

On the 1851 map the Footprint matches the plan of the unamed premises between Sim Croft and School Croft; the sale description matches as does the licensee (William Slack) and as the photo (taken from Tenter Street) shows it was the establishment of Arthur Jackson:

I do believe we've identified the Wheatsheaf.

Thanks Edmund.
