Ponytail
Plan of the Public House in Far Gate late the property of Thomas Bailey Watson afterwards of - Akeroyd now of - Cadman of Leeds and held by Robert Winter with the alterations made therein since 1807, [1829] also showing the adjoining property of late - Akeroyd in the same yard. https://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;arc03562&pos=45&action=zoom&id=98904 The Public House is not named, thought of the Fleur de Lys but searching the licensees in the A to Z compiled by Sheffield History, found: in 1830 a Robert Winter, licensee of the King's Arms, 17 Fargate. Thomas Bailey Watson and Cadman of Leeds were probably the owners of the premises, possibly brewers? Another search found: Copy of a Plan of an Estate in the town of Sheffield the property of Messrs Cadman and the Trustees of the late John Stanley. 1834. Shows Kings Arms Inn, common yard, ashes, skittle yard, piggeries, stables, shops, and smithies. Names marked: Jarvis Turner, James Pickford, Joseph Sellars, Ben. Pickford, Vincent Bartlett, Edward Cockayne, Thomas Derwent, Elizabeth Ainley, Geo. Hicken, Geo. Kaye, and Richard Hughs. Surveyed by N Sharpe, land surveyor, Leeds [West Yorkshire]. Endorsed: Premises in Far Gate. https://www.picturesheffield.com/frontend.php?keywords=Ref_No_increment;EQUALS;arc04107&pos=3&action=zoom&id=103670 Pigots Directory 1829: King's Arms, Fargate is recorded as No. 9. with Benjamin Smith, licensee.
