Fulwood Rd pavement markings

I've had this shared with me online - markings in the kerb opposite Endcliffe Crescent.

LTM/STM 1910 - any thoughts? Never seen anything like it before.

Probably way off the mark (excuse the pun) with this idea. On the OS 1903 map (Sheet 294.10 Alan Godfrey Map Fulwood & Ranmoor) there is a line that borders Darwin Lane and comes across Tapton Park Road down through Tapton Grange and St. John's Church and down to the pavement on Fulwood Road.

The 1905 OS map also shows an OS Trig Station directly opposite.

Could it relate to that? the arrow also being the usual symbol associated with OS benchmarks.

LTM and STM I can only guess at, but the TM could stand for ‘Trig Mark’. S could be ‘Surface’?

In 1910 the tramway was made two-way working.  Previously (see 1905 map above) the line reduced to a single line at the end of Endcliffe Crescent.

Hi Calvin. Think you will find this interesting!

Go to:-           Kerbstone Markings 2

That website says that the OS only put marks on walls or buildings. So that rules them out.

It also implies that they are Stone Mason marks.

Could the STM mean STone Mason?

LTM - maybe the Quarry name? L and T might be the stone mason or masons and the M for Mason?  The 1910 date would tie in with the construction of the new tramway and the stone being used in that.

Another thought then is that ST is Sheffield Trams or Transport?
