English Pewter Co. Ltd., Princess Street, Commemorative Plaque to Harry Brealey inventor of Stainless Steel at the former premises of Firth Brown and Co. Ltd., Research Laboratories. 05/08/2005

Memorial to Harry Brearley the inventor of stainless steel who worked for Firth Brown and Co. 1908-1915. It is situated on the building wall at the junction of Princess Street and Blackmoor Street. Born 18th February 1871 in Ramsden's Yard at the back of 23 Spital Street died at Livermead, Torquay aged 77 on the 14th July 1948.

Spital Street, centre of the map, between Spital Hill and Neville Street. Spital Hill starts at the Wicker Arches. A short stretch of Spital Street also runs from Spital Hill to Carlisle Street. (not on this map)
