Edmund
Here are some stereoscopic images from the Library of Congress, the city centre ones from 1903 and the workshop ones are from 1927. Even without the proper stereo viewer, it's possible to get a 3-D view by simultaneously having one eye looking at each of the two versions of the views. Get the whole thing taking up your computer screen (it doesn't work on phones). Then put your nose an inch or so from the screen between the two versions. It may take a minute or so for your eyes to adjust, and sometimes a slight change in the distance is needed.

What you say is true, the images are from the Library of Congress and you should be able to view them the way you say, although a proper viewer would work better. Brian May owns the London Stereoscopic Company that sells the images and viewers. https://shop.londonstereo.com/VRKIT.html
