Cedric
Edmund put a copy of this on Dropbox for which I am most grateful. However two pages are missing: p.122"The Principal Inhabitants of Ecclesfield, in White's Directory of 1833" and p. 123 "Riding the Stang", If Edmund or anyone else has a copy of these two pages to share I would be indebted. Cedric.

rover1949
There are several references to fork makers at Oliver Wheel, - presumably a water wheel? The bottom end of Wheel Lane is just known as 'The Wheel'.
Cedric
Thank you Edmund for sending me the actual two pages it makes my copy (from your Dropbox posting) complete. I'd never heard of 'Riding the Stang' before - I had come across "barrowing" in mining villages in South Yorkshire. Thank you Rover for pointing out 'Oliver Wheel' - I lived in Ecclesfield Road, Chapeltown in the fifties and went to Ecclesfield Grammar School, and we moved to Grenoside and I often walked down Wheel Lane! I will seek more references of 'Oliver Wheel' (if they exist!)
