This I find very interesting. My 3rd great grandfather was a Joseph Ashforth (1838-1896). He was born in Birmingham to George Ashforth (a Sheffielder who went to Birmingham for his apprenticeship) and Leah Webb who was the daughter of George's boss.

My Joseph was a filesmith but clearly not the above Joseph but I have no doubt there must be a connection as Ashforth is not such a common name.
