The Charles Kedman Jarvis who married Hannah Maria Kay on 9th June 1873 was the son of Charles Kedman Jarvis.  Charles the son was a paperhanger. Charles the elder started off as a shopman in Barraclough's Bookseller & Stationer at 40 Fargate before setting up on his own in Division street in May 1852. He went bust in 1861, though recovered and briefly added victualler to his C.V, but after another brush with bankruptcy in 1864 was bailed on embezzlement charges at Leeds Assizes in 1868.  From 1877 up to his death at Pyebank in June 1900, Charles senior had been a commercial traveller for William K. Woodward, paper manufacturer of Olive Mills (Loxley) and Mulberry street.
