William Henry Brown was previously working his business at Wardsend Steel Works and Storrs Bridge.

Wadsley Forge/Wardsend Steel Works, River Don. 

"By 1849 the Works at Wardsend had changed from a grinding wheel to a Forge (as was previously) William Brown is described as a tilter, roller, forger and slitter at Wardsend Steel Works, confirmed by an inventory of 1855, which includes a Forge and rollers and a water wheel 15ft in diameter and 9ft 6in wide as well as a high pressure stream engine. A Norfolk lease of 1860, to Sir Ralph Howard, contains further details. The lease was quickly assigned to Samuel Fox."

Storrs Bridge Wheel, River Loxley, sale advertisements 1834 & 1842 describe "ironworks with a tilt, forge, rolling mill and wire mill as well as black smiths, wheelwrights shops, barn, cowhouse, cottage and land."

William Henry Brown declared Bankrupt after the Flood of 1864.

Sheffield Flood Claim. 

James Morrison, Iron Master; Newcastle upon Tyne; John Scott Frazer, Iron Merchant, St. Helens. Lancashire and George Dawes, Iron Master, Elsecar & Milton Iron Works, Nr. Barnsley.

The Trustees under an Assignment dated 10th October 1864 made by William Henry Brown, steel roller and merchant who carried on in business under the style or firm as W. H. Brown and Co. at the Albion Iron and Steel Works in Saville Street, Sheffield for the benefit of his auditors under Schedule D of the Bankruptcy Act 1861.
