Extract from www.worthpoint.com

"Stamped with "John Greaves and Son," with diamond trade mark. John Greaves & Son of South Street, brass founders and steel convertors, makers of tools. (working 1839-1849) Made many variations of postal and coin scales and other similar items using nickel silver. Greaves advertised their postal scales and pitch pipes October 1840. Perhaps no relation but a "W. Greaves" also of England at the turn of the century 1800. It would not surprise me if the craftsmanship was passed down from father, W. Greaves to his child John Greaves who then worked with his son John Greaves & Son. "
