In 1900 Joseph Pickering merged his polish manufacturing business with that of his son in law, Arthur Truelove a tin and cardboard box maker.

The packaging side of the business was a success resulting in a new factory being built 1908 (architect C & CME Hadfield) on Moore Street. Flat roofed, fireproof construction of concrete and steel, faced with terracotta tiles. `Spectacular splayed entrance with great variety of different mouldings over the doorway, elaborate cornices, decorated spandrels and upper windows deeply inset behind arcading. " Information from Pevsners Architectural Guide to Sheffield, Ruth Harman and John Minnis.

Now a listed building.

My Dad ,home on leave from the RAF ,had a device with which he “blancoed” his tunic uniform buttons. Never thought that our City would have a connection with the substance!
