Edmund Posted December 31, 2022 Share Posted December 31, 2022 I think their Opium worked, there must have been an uncounted number of deaths both accidental and deliberate. Home made cough mixture was made using opium, sold in a paper twist, called a scruple, for a penny, which contained 20 grains and was equivalent to 380 drops of laudenum. Other ingredients were juniper berries and Spanish juice (liquorice). The shop assistant would write on the paper "opium, poison", but many customers couldn't read.
